Our Term 3 Genius Hour Open Expo

This term, students have been working on their Genius Hour projects.

Yesterday was our Open Expo afternoon, where the entire St. Mark’s community (students, parents and teachers) were invited in to have a look at what the students have been investigating.

All the Year 5/6 students were eager to share and explain their projects to our visitors. It seemed that the other students, parents and teachers were quite impressed with the variety of interesting topics, and the creativity that students have shown this term.

We would like to thank everybody that came to our Expo! We look forward to Genius Hour next term and having another expo in December.

Below is a list of all our final presentations:

  1. Maddie says:

    I like how you looked into a big issue. It is also good that you collected information for graphs. On page 7 you could spread out your information a bit more to make it easier to read.
    From Maddie.

    • Boris says:

      Thanks for commenting on my genius hour! Next time I will try to remember to paragraph my information so people can understand! (I was secretly not paragraphing to see if people were actually going to read it).

      From Boris

  2. Elyse says:

    I enjoyed reading your presentation, your project was a very good idea. I found the second last slide hard to read because of the background but besides that the text was easy to read. How long did it take you to make the game?
    From Elyse

  3. Lilly says:

    @Nick and Jack

    I like your idea of teaching other kids how to use Scratch. I thought it was also a really good idea to make it so its more fun. So for kids that don’t enjoy work they will enjoy it. Nick I like the sound of your game I would definitely play it.
    You both could of written a bit more information though. But all up it was really good.

    • Nicholas says:

      Thanks Lilly i am glad you would play my game and also glad you thought it would teach others to use scratch witch it was mean’t to teach them.

  4. Jay says:

    I think that it was awesome and you had a lot of good information. I think next time you should take more things apart and take more pictures.

  5. Reagan says:

    @Isabella.d, Phoebe.t, Matisse.s, Lucy.c
    I agree pollution is really bad for animals. On a documentary a whale was killed and they found over 50 plastic bags in the one whale. Your information was great and you’re really putting the point out there its great you’re looking at an unsolved issue.

    By Reagan

    • Isabella says:

      Thank you Reagan for replying to our blog post.It is really sad that in just one whale there were over 50 plastic bags. Imagine how many plastic bags there would be in every whale in the whole world there would be maybe over 1million WOW. We really appreciate you replying and we really hope you enjoyed our project and our infomation. By the Way did you do Genius Hour? If you did what was yours about?

      From Isabella.D, Phoebe.T, Matisse.S, Lucy.C

  6. Roselin says:

    @Daniel,Jack and Michael

    I like it how each person said their ideas before actually working out the answer, and thinking of all the possibilities for what could be used.

    It’s good that the ideas were actually experimented to see whether they would work. The pictures were a good example to support that.

    If there were something I would fix it would be the idea it was focused on. I lost the plot halfway through. Other then that, it was outstanding!

    Thanks, Roselin

    • Jack and Michael says:

      We also learnt a very valuable lesson that
      we shouldn’t take advantage of the things we own,
      because they have barely any clothes.

      The other week a priest named Father Alwin came and told us
      about the saddest things and I kind of related to it a bit with our project and it was a real eye opener. I hope you like our next project coming.

      Jack and Michael

  7. Myles says:

    Hi Kaela I liked that you didn’t put too much information on each slide and I also like the front cover. Maybe next time add some more images and reread your writing.

  8. Jack and Michael says:

    Thankyou for the great comment and we understand
    that the topic may not be as interesting as the others.
    Thankyou for reading.

    Jack and Michael

  9. Roselin says:

    @James and Josh

    I really liked the explanation of all the reasons why this project was picked. It was definitely thought through very well, and was shown through the presentation.

    The presentation and order of how it was set up was very impressive. It introduced, then explained, and wrapped up neatly. Nice work.

    If there were something that I would add, it would be explaining how hard the game was, what difficulty’s were there? Was it easy?
    Other then that, it covered the topic very well and explained into detail perfectly. Great job.

    From Roselin

    • Josh says:

      Hey Roselin,

      thanks for the comment it was great knowing someone liked our presentation. it wasn’t too challenging but it still took a lot of work, we tried to explain everything in the presentation and also explain how the game was made as well but overall thank you for saying you liked it and thank you for the comment.

      from Josh

  10. Matt says:

    Me & Theo didn’t copy the AFL/VFL history (page 11 ) because it was of our website. Thanks for saying our All Australian team 2013 was good & thanks for saying that it was a good piece of work. We are doing another genius hour this term my question is ( how can we create a perfect holiday destination ) this time we’re doing a slideshow, booklet & a model on Google sketch up.

    P.S the All Australian team is real it wasn’t created by us

    From Matt

  11. Paul says:

    Hi everyone Paul here,
    I love the 5/6 creations. They’re really fun! I cant wait to become a 5/6 student! 🙂
    From Paul
